Ethan has remained steadily involved in singing since he was 15, performing continuously for nearly 20 years. After Sweatin’ Blood/Afterlife disbanded in 1998, he filled in for local classic rock cover band Rock Candy while simultaneously singing with his own cover band Mr.E. His schedule was often so busy he would sing with Mr.E on one side of town, then race across town to sing with Rock Candy the same night. His vast knowledge of songs from 60’s and 70’s classic rock, to 80’s pop and metal, to 90’s grunge and metal earned Ethan a solid reputation and made him a highly sought last-minute stand-in for local bands like Whisper Alley. Ethan concentrated his efforts on Rock Candy exclusively when they’d landed a steady alternating weekend schedule at The Blooze in 1999-2000. With the new millennium Ethan turned his attention toward solo projects.
Ethan Foxx “solo” quite literally means just that. He performs all of the instruments on his solo music, multi-tracking each part in his home recording studio. After nearly 10 years of singing hard rock and heavy metal with Sweatin’ Blood, Ethan returned to expressing the softer qualities of his voice. Extremely versatile in range and power, Ethan can sing with the whispering gentleness of a breeze and instantly switch to belting out notes with the ferocity of a lion’s roar. His solo material, for the most part, explores the gentler aspects of Ethan’s expression through music.
Multi-tracking all of the instruments in an arrangement can make playing live rather challenging. Still addicted to the rush of performing, Ethan plays with Get Back!, a tribute to the timeless and influential music of the Beatles, as well as hosting acoustic open mics. Although he maintains a rigorous schedule loaded with commitments and responsibilities, Ethan devotes a specified amount of time each month to working solo in his recording studio.
To date, he has completed and made available one full-length CD consisting of his solo music entitled Shining On. So much more than just a rocker, Ethan also composes meditative music which employs traditional world instruments and features the Native American Flute. The authentic elk and deer-skin drums he uses are his own creations (information on custom built and painted drum availability coming soon). At the foundation of this relaxing music, Ethan utilizes recorded sounds of nature. His full-length CD The Seven Sacred Directions is also available through his online store (currently closed). Ethan is presently busy simultaneously composing and recording another solo rock record and meditative journey CD to be released soon. Sign up for emailed updates and news at Ethan Foxx’s Newsletter.
