Imaginal Cells is an independent American progressive rock and heavy metal band from Phoenix, Arizona, renowned for their intricate concept albums and politically charged storytelling. Formed in 2022 by visionary vocalist Ethan Foxx and guitarist Jimmy Caterine from the remnants of the band HereAfter, the group's current lineup also features bassist Peter Crane, keyboardist Eric Barker, and drummer Steve Hambruch.
Imaginal Cells blends a classic hard rock sonic palette with driving rhythms, fiery guitar solos, lush vocal harmonies, and vintage keyboard layers that directly appeal to fans of Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, Rainbow, and Black Sabbath. Their music acts as a vehicle for aggressive environmental and social commentary reminiscent of Megadeth and Rage Against The Machine, a theme that takes center stage in their critically acclaimed, 80-minute debut concept album, Purified, released in November 2024 under Eye See Records.
Inspired by Native American doomsday prophecies, this epic progressive metal release explores an out-of-balance Earth striking back against humanity, tackling urgent modern issues like deforestation, oil spills, and colonialism through standout tracks like "The Spirit of Things," "Tar Sands Wasteland," and their 12-minute self-titled closer, "Imaginal Cells."
